Year Book eureka moment

I did a little bit of initial idea work for the interdisciplinary work based on what I knew about the course already and what I found out on the LCA website. I came up with the idea of creating some sort of typographic installation piece for the front cover which would spell out the name of the course.

The letterforms would be placed in an installation space and would be presented on the cover as image only. So there wouldn't be any type on the cover at all, just the installation. This got me thinking about how this would tie into a concept that would sum up the course. The letterforms on the front cover would be white and would be portrayed as a blank canvas.

As we found out later, there are 17 members of the course and 17 letters in 'inter disciplinary' so I felt that each member of the group could take one of the 17 letterforms and do with it how they choose. Paint it, decorate, whatever they wanted. Those letterforms would then be presented on the back cover as a before an after.

This, to me, sums up the course pretty well based on my initial findings. It seems they do quite a lot of craft, image making, sculpting, and installation art. I feel this approach would be a true reflection and show the personality of the course on the reverse.

Of course, sculpting the letterforms could be costly if produced in wood, but the investment in the letterforms mean that the course could use these letterforms to recreate the installation for the front cover on exhibition night, and also use it for the promoting material, so the typography wouldn't be used just for the cover and then ditched it would act as the focal point for the course for this years exhibition.
