McSweeneys

As part of my investigation into suitable design directions and ways of making this publication work, I have started to look at the research points as noted in the brief. Gary mentioned McSweeney's publishing as point of interest that may help to uncover either a visual approach or a give ideas on what form the publication could take.

As the budget is tight, stock and colour is going to have to have an impact on the design. I have already made the outer packaging which makes use of a cardboard stock with a one colour print.

The use of simple bold colour and black ink could prove to be the best way forward, particularly for outer covers. I would expect that any mini publication would be stapled or stitched very simply, to save on time and money.

These hardback books adopt a simple colour which differentiates between titles. This could be a possible route when producing different elements for each publication inserted into the pack. So one colour for essays, one for exhibitions, etc.

Although this box is a little weird and unnerving the variety of contents really makes me think about what could be fitted into the inserts of my pack. Not just little books but perhaps prints, postcards, foldouts, etc.

Drawn towards the instructions supplement.
